Welcome
to the MSL-BLSA website. Please, take a look around and let us know your
thoughts; we want to know how to make your law school experience better.
The National Black Law Students Association
(NBLSA), the largest student-run organization in America, has over 200 chapters
at law schools throughout the country. This represents almost every accredited
law school. These chapters represent over 6,000 Black law students in six
regions which encompass 48 states including Hawaii, and the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico. Recently, NBLSA established international links with Black law
students in Canada, England and South Africa who decided to model their student
organizations after NBLSA.
Our Mission
We, the Black Law Students
Association
of the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover,
exist for the support, guidance and direction of students in academic,
professional and social endeavors. Our main function is to assist members in the
development of their legal careers and to provide opportunities for exposure to
various areas and aspects of the legal profession. We recognize the need to act
positively in the development of the MSL community, to encourage cooperation and
closer ties between members of the National Black Law Students Association and
the MSL community. We intend to establish a vehicle through which our concerns
are brought to bear on Massachusetts School of Law policy and the local
community at large. In addition, we acknowledge the common goals which bond
student and professional organizations of color and we seek to foster
relationships with these groups.
Message from the President:
On behalf of the Black Law Students Association at the
Massachusetts School of Law and its executive board, I salute you all with
great enthusiasm. It is a pleasure and an honor to serve as the
MSLaw Black Law Students Association President for the 2007-2008 academic
year.I would like to welcome and
congratulate all newly admitted students and thank all of our returning
student members for your continued support of our organization.
Our Executive Board members meet at least twice a
month throughout the year in order to develop and implement events and
programs. These events and programs provide education, support, networking
opportunities and encouragement to all of our members. We certainly
encourage your suggestions.
I am confident that you all will benefit positively
from your involvement with MSLaw BLSA. Therefore, I encourage everyone to
attend as many events scheduled this coming year, including, but not
limited to panel discussions, community service initiatives, academic
tutoring sessions and social events.
Once again, I am honored to serve as your president.
Together with the Executive Board, members and alumni, I fervently believe
that we can accomplish great things, individually and collectively.
Very truly yours,
A. Alexander Ogwu
MSLaw BLSA President, 2007-2008
